St Eunan's Shane O'Donnell picked up the Gradam Shéamuis Mhic Géidigh at the club dinner dance in Letterkenny, having been selected as the Player of the Donegal Championship 2024.

O'Donnell was selected as the standout player as his side won the SFC for a record 16th time following their win over An Clochán Liath in the final in October. This followed an inter-county season when the Letterkenny native helped Donegal to the Allianz League Division 2 title, the Ulster SFC crown and a place in the All-Ireland semi-final.

He was joined by his brothers and teammates Conor and Niall on the night at the Mount Errigal Hotel in Letterkenny, sister Eimear and parents Brendan and Eileen. Cathal Greene, the former St Eunan's chairman and friend of the McGeady family - also from Ardsbeg - presented the award.

The Gradam Shéamuis Mhic Géidigh is presented each year to the player of the Donegal Championship, as selected by a committee of sports journalists in the county, chaired by Damien Ó Dónaill of RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta.

Broadcaster Séamus Mac Géidigh was synonymous with Donegal GAA, and the voice of Gaelic Games in that county until his untimely death in 2016. This award was established to honour his memory. Recipients to date are Michael Murphy, Mark McHugh, Odhrán Mac Niallais, Ciarán Thompson, Caolan Ward, Brendan Mc Dyre and Oisín Gallen.

The award was created by sculptor Redmond Herrity using Donegal Granite carved in the shape of Errigal, with an image of Séamus Mac Géidigh engraved to the front.
