Former Donegal footballer and mentor John Duffy takes charge at Robert Emmets

Robert Emmetts have confirmed that John Duffy will take charge of their footballers for the upcoming season.

The stylish former Aodh Ruadh forward will take the helm in Castlefin, having worked alongside Jim McGuinness with Donegal 11 years ago, when they reached the All-Ireland final and won the Ulster SFC.

Duffy takes over from Liam Sweeney, a Tyrone native who took the club to the Junior B final in 2023, where they lost out in a replay to St Mary's, Convoy, and then to a first win the in Junior A Championship last season, when they toppled Naomh Colmcille.

"We are excited to announce that John Duffy, a former Donegal county player and selector for Jim McGuinness in 2014, has been ratified as the new manager of Robert Emmets," the club posted. "John brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the role, and we are confident that he will lead our team to new heights. We look forward to a progressive season ahead under John’s leadership. We would like to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt gratitude to Liam Sweeney for his dedicated service over the past two years. His leadership and commitment have greatly contributed to our progress in recent seasons."

Robert Emmets used the opportunity for prospective players to make themselves available for the club: "If you are a player interested in playing for Robert Emmets Clg in 2025, please express interest to any of our club members.
