Donegal midfielder Jason McGee is set to leave Cloughaneely to play his club football in Monaghan.

The 26-year-old is taking up a job in Dublin and will transfer to Corduff, who currently play in the Monaghan SFC, having won the IFC in 2022 against Magheracloone.

The news will come as a blow for the manager of the Falcarragh-based club, Michael Lynch, who returned to the role - replacing Denis Doohan - on Tuesday having previously been in charge for six seasons up until 2022.

McGee helped Cloughaneely to the 2021 Donegal IFC, when they defeated Dungloe 1-11 to 0-5 in the replayed final, picking up the man of the match award.

With Donegal, he made his first Donegal senior appearance in 2017 and made his championship bow that summer, starting at midfield alongside Ciaran Thompson, for Rory Gallagher’s team in their 3-19 to 1-9 Ulster SFC quarter-final win over Antrim.

A year beforehand, McGee was joint-captain with Niall O'Donnell as Donegal claimed the Ulster Minor Football Championship and reached the All-Ireland semi-final, where they lost out to Galway.

Last year, McGee was part of the side managed by Jim McGuinness who won the Ulster SFC crown, defeating Armagh 6-5 on penalties after a 0-20 to 0-20 draw in after extra-time in Clones and made the last four of the All-Ireland series, only to go down against Galway on a 1-14 to 0-15 scoreline.
