TV View: Here's how the new rules looked on weekend one of the Allianz League

With Donegal’s opening Allianz League postponed in Killarney, the DonegalLive sports team kept an eye on the other televised fixtures on Saturday and Sunday, to see how the new rules worked out

The throw-in
Only one player from each team will contest throw-ins at the start of each half. The other two midfielders must remain on their defensive side of the halfway line

Tyrone v Derry: From a first watch, the one-on-one seems to get things underway faster, as in previous years there were some choreographed blocks - even some wrestling - and the likes. That’s not to say there won’t be wrestling in the future and the ‘other’ midfielders do look a touch lonely on the sidelines, but all in all, it looks like a decent innovation.

Roscommon v Down and Galway v Armagh: There seems to be universal agreement that this rule change is welcome and does away with the usual pulling and dragging.

Dublin v Mayo: A rule that looks like it could be staying for the long haul, and there’s no reason why. Set a nice tone to the game without any ‘off the ball’ incidents that we have been so used to.
