Ciarán Kilkenny tries to get past Brendan McCole the last time Donegal and Dublin met in the league in 2022
Jim McGuinness's Donegal side will get their season off and running this weekend when they welcome Dublin to MacCumhaill Park as the boys from the capital try to make it two league wins on the bounce.
Donegal’s trip to Kerry last weekend was postponed due to the effects of Storm Eowyn, so McGuinness's team will be fresh and ready for their upcoming opponents who have suffered a major blow with news coming last weekend that a number of their key players have opted out of the panel for the upcoming year.
On the other hand, this weekend could potentially see the return of Donegal legend Michael Murphy who has made a return to the county squad for the first time in two years.
Last year, Donegal stormed to the Division Two league title, just pipping eventual All-Ireland title winners Armagh to the league title on Easter weekend in Croke Park, while Dublin lost their Division 1 league final to Derry.
Nine-time All-Ireland winner Stephen Cluxton is said to be part of the Dublin squad for 2025, while Dublin manager Dessie Farrell has confirmed that he expects to be without both Jack McCaffrey and Paul Mannion for the new campaign.
Dublin will look to follow on from their two-point win over Mayo last Saturday in Croke Park which saw the sides play under the new rules.
Interestingly, Dublin have been unbeaten against Donegal in the league since the Ulsterman last beat them on a 0-13 to 1-8 scoreline in Ballyshannon back in 2009.
