Michael Langan was given the honour of captaining Donegal in their first outing of 2025.
St Michael's midfielder Langan is the nephew of the late Don Langan, also from Creeslough, who passed away last month. A minute's silence was held at MacCumhaill Park before Donegal's Allianz League Division 1 opener against Dublin.
Don was the St Michael’s club referee and also ran courses for officials as Donegal GAA referee’s recruitment officer.

Donegal didn’t make it to Killarney last week following Storm Éowyn so were in action for the first time since losing to Galway in the All-Ireland semi-final last July. Patrick McBrearty has been captain of Donegal since the start of the 2023 season and started on the bench, with Ciaran Thompson skippering the team in last year's Division 2 final win over Armagh. Michael Murphy was captain of Deongal from 2011 until 2022 and has made a u-turn following his retirement, although was not named in the matchday panel.
