Roisin Rodgers was the hero for Donegal against Monaghan on Sunday
Roisin Rodgers says Donegal made their own luck in their dramatic Lidl Ladies NFL Division 2 win over Monaghan on Sunday.
Trailing by one in the dying seconds in Lifford, the captain bravely threw herself onto the braking ball from a dropped Susanne White free and somehow flicked to the back of the net.
It meant Donegal jumped into a 1-7 to 0-8 lead and with the whistle signalling immediately on the restart, James Daly’s side had picked up their first win of the season to go along with two opening draws.
“It broke in the middle of everyone and I just reacted,” said the Naomh Mhuire club woman after. “To be fair to the girls, it’s such a young side and we probably were due that little rub of the green.
“They’re getting so much right so soon as it’s a completely new set-up. But just when it looked like the game was going away from us we managed to pull it out of the fire.

“Monaghan are a good side and our shape and our threat was there throughout. We just need to click, I think, and the rest will come.
“What we’re looking at right now is so much potential and I think once the younger girls start to get a feel of things at this level you’ll see that real quality. But in terms of effort and just going to the last whistle, I’m so proud of them today”.
