Jim McGuinness rings the changes as Donegal name team for Galway clash

Five alterations to the starting lineup for Galway match as Michael Murphy misses out of the matchday 26

Jim McGuinness rings the changes as Donegal name team for Galway clash

Donegal manager Jim McGuinness will be looking to make it four wins from four this weekend

Jim McGuinness has made a significant number of changes to his Donegal starting panel as they hope to keep their undefeated record intact against Galway this Sunday in Salthill.

There have been four changes made in the starting 15 from McGuinness’s side’s win over the All-Ireland champions Armagh last weekend in MacCumhaill Park, but perhaps most noteworthy is that Glenswilly man Michael Murphy is not named in the matchday panel.

The All-Ireland winning captain made his return to the field for Donegal for the first time since 2022 when he came on as a second-half substitute and was inspirational in kicking three points in Donegal’s impressive 0-21 to 1-10 victory over the Orchard County.

Eoin McHugh, Domhnall Mac Giolla Bhride, and Odhran Doherty come in for their first start of the season while Hugh McFadden returns to the matchday panel after not appearing on the field last weekend, with the Killybegs man taking up the position in midfield.

Dáire Ó Baoill, who got Man of the Match against Dublin three weeks’ ago also returns to the starting team, being placed at centre-half forward with Finnbarr Roarty, Ryan McHugh, Ciaran Thompson, Eoghan Bán Gallagher, and Shane O’Donnell all dropping out of the starting line-up.

Donegal will be hoping for revenge over Pádraic Joyce’s side having lost to the Tribesmen the last time these two teams met in the All-Ireland semi-final last July, but since then, Donegal has defeated the last three All-Ireland champions in Dublin, Kerry, and Armagh.

Galway will also be looking for a response after Derry’s mighty comeback to secure a draw against Galway in round three of the league last Saturday.

Donegal team to face Galway: Shaun Patton; Mark Curran, Brendan McCole, Peadar Mogan; Eoin McHugh, Caolan McGonagle, Ciáran Moore; Hugh McFadden, Domhnall Mac Giolla Bhride; Odhran Doherty, Dáire Ó Baoill, Jamie Brennan; Patrick McBrearty, Oisin Gallen, Conor O’Donnell.
