Jim Gavin is head of the Football Review Committee
The GAA's Football Review Committee (FRC) convened on Friday, February 28, to evaluate the effects of recently implemented rule enhancements, drawing upon data from the initial four rounds of the 2025 Allianz Football Leagues.
This initiative aligns with the FRC's ongoing commitment to refining Gaelic football, ensuring the sport remains dynamic and engaging.
After five rounds of inter-county football, the FRC will now review the rules brought in last winter and see any necessary tweaks or changes.
To assess these changes comprehensively, the FRC has distributed online surveys to inter-county and club managers through their respective County Secretaries. Feedback is also being gathered from the National Referees’ Panel following the FRC's attendance at a referees’ meeting last Thursday.

The review process is set to continue into the coming week as the FRC reconvenes to incorporate findings from the fifth round of the competition.
Subsequently, the committee will present its conclusions and any recommendations to the Standing Committee on Playing Rules. This body will then collaborate with both Coiste Bainistíochta and Ard Chomhairle, scheduled to meet on Thursday, March 13, to determine the future application of these enhancements ahead of the football championship.
The FRC extends its gratitude to all involved parties, including players, managers, referees, members, and supporters, whose invaluable feedback has been integral to this evaluative process.
As the 2025 season progresses, the Gaelic football community remains attentive to the impact of these rule changes, anticipating that they will enhance the sport's dynamism and spectator appeal.
