St Patrick’s College, Maghera, managed by Donegal and Fanad native Willie McAteer, claimed their sixth Hogan Cup title with a commanding victory over St Colman’s, Claremorris, at Croke Park.

The Derry school, continuing the county’s dominance at underage level, were in control for most of the game, with Padraig Haran—who struck 1-1 and was named Man of the Match — leading the charge. His 40th-minute goal, after a fine run from Darach McGonigle, was the turning point, effectively sealing the win.

Maghera’s second goal came deep into stoppage time, courtesy of Darragh O’Neill, stretching the final margin to 10 points. In truth, St Pat’s could have won by more, having squandered several goal opportunities.

St Colman’s, with all their points coming from Darragh Beirne, struggled to break down Maghera’s defence. Beirne and Dara Flanagan both had goal chances late on, but goalkeeper Jack McCloy produced crucial saves to keep a clean sheet.

St Pat’s had led 0-5 to 0-1 at half-time, but wasteful shooting prevented them from putting the game beyond reach earlier. However, their superior physicality and defensive organisation, exemplified by Rian Collins' vital tackle on Ciaran Treacy, ensured they never looked in real danger.

With former Derry star Sean Marty Lockhart and Slaughtneil’s Chrissy McKaigue also on the management team, Maghera’s success further cements the county’s reputation as a powerhouse of underage football.
