Naomh Conaill GAA club have paid tribute to the late Josie Mac Ceallabhuí, Fintown, who passed away at Letterkenny University Hospital on Sunday.

"Everyone at Naomh Conaill GAA club extend their heartfelt condolences to the family, relatives and friends of Josie McKelvey on Josie's death," read a club statement to mark the passing of one of their players from the 1965 Donegal SFC final appearance against St Joseph's.

"Josie was a renowned footballer and very passionate about the Irish language and culture. Scór played a big part in his life, especially in dancing. His son Seosamh played and managed several teams in the club and Josie’s grandson Jeaic and Mattias continue the great McKelvey tradition as great GAA people. Josie’s late Brother Jimmy was a former officer and Connie and Neil were also former players and officers of the club. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam uasal."

Removal from The Eternal Light Chapel of Rest, Letterkenny, took place on Monday, to his residence in Fintown. Requiem Mass at 12 noon on Wednesday, 9th February, in Teach Pobail Cholmcille Naofa, with burial afterwards in the adjoining Churchyard. Rosary tomorrow night, Tuesday, at 8pm and house private afterwards until 11am.

Josie is lovingly missed by his children, Seosamh, Maighread, Fionnuala, Deirdre and Áine. Always remembered by his brothers, Con and Neil, sisters Mary, Nellie and Little Anna, his grandchildren and all extended family, close friends and neighbours. Josie was predeceased by his wife, Margaret, his brothers, Pa and Jimmy, and his sisters, Bríd, Rosie and Kitty.
