A much improved Donegal were unable to topple Dublin at Croke Park.
Declan Bonner’s men stayed competitive for the most part, but lost out 2-15 to 2-11.
A Patrick McBrearty goal had Donegal 1-4 to 0-2 ahead by the midway point of the first half.
However, Niall Scully fired to the bottom corner in the 20th minute and the Dubs swung the pendulum to lead 1-8 to 1-5 at the interval.
The second half was a slow burner, but when Michael Murphy punched to the net from Ryan McHugh’s ball in, Donegal were just two behind.
Any chance of a comeback were eroded when Dean Rock blasted a late penalty past Shaun Patton after Mick Fitzsimons was fouled.
