A much improved performance from Donegal’s minor lady footballers wasn’t enough as they suffered another defeat on Saturday, this time losing out to Monaghan in Emyvale.

Monaghan . . . 3-13

Donegal . . . 0-9

In their third game in the Ulster Championship, Donegal needed to defeat Monaghan to keep alive their hopes of qualifying for a plate final in Section A.

However, not for the first time in this competition, Donegal conceded a couple of poor early goals and were chasing the game from early on.

Indeed by half time, Monaghan had eased into a 3-10 to 0-3 lead. This despite Donegal playing well after the water break.

That improvement continued into the second half with Francie Martin making a number of substitutions and the visitors were suddenly the better team.

Well taken points from Codie Walsh, Holly Roarty, Brenda Carr, Aoife Doohan, Jamie Lee McMahon and Jodie McFadden was some reward for a decent Donegal performance.

And they can take heart from that second half display as they prepare for their final match of the campaign, against Antrim in MacCumhaill Park, Ballybofey next Saturday.
