Four Masters manager Kevin Sinclair
Four Masters got a draw in their opening game in the Donegal SFC last Saturday against Cloughaneely and manager Kevin Sinclair was able to smile afterwards despite conceding a late equaliser.
The two sides couldn’t be separated in Donegal Town, with Jason McGee securing a 2-7 to 1-10 draw for the visitors. Dermot Slevin and Jamie Crawford has chances to win it for the hosts but a share of the spoils it was.
When put to Sinclair that it was probably a fair result, he replied: "Who cares about fair? We had a chance to win it but we didn't get over the line. But in fairness, they had chances too but yeah, both teams will probably be happy with the draw."
It has been a difficult few years for Four Masters but they are building with a mostly young team.
"We are learning every week and trying to get them together. Hopefully, we are on the up," said Sinclair, who started without one of his star young players, Richard O'Rourke.
"Richard has been out for six weeks and we are easing him back in."
Four Masters will travel to MacCumhaill Park next Sunday evening to take on MacCumhaill's and Sinclair feels his young side should embrace the challenge.
"MacCumhaill's are a good side with a couple of quality players,” he said. “But that is no more than we faced against Cloughaneely, who had Jason McGee today. They have players who will take watching. But you want to be marking the best and hopefully our young fellas can step up."
Sinclair agrees that his side are in good shape and credits Declan Bushell for that. "Deccie has them in great shape and the type of training he does is injury prevention training, something I had never heard of."
Sinclair is hopeful of having Kevin McBrearty back soon and feels it is great to be testing themselves in the senior championship. "A lot of people would have us down. But we are still kicking and getting the odd result." As for Sunday next he says: "Bring it on."
