Eddie Blake and St Eunan’s aiming for fourth Senior B crown on the trot

St Eunan's have dominated the Donegal Senior B Championship since 2018, although on Sunday captain Eddie Blake knows that an in-form Naomh Conaill team will mean it will be a battle to make it four-in-a-row

Looking at St Eunan's B captain Eddie Blake and his counterpart Aaron Thompson and you are in the presence of two leaders.

Two feisty characters who could end up marking each other on Sunday, in the Senior B final, where, like the seniors, St Eunan’s take on Conaill. Thompson spoke the launch of the Donegal senior finals, with Logan Quinn, the Naomh Conaill captain, taking up position for the photos afterwards.

Blake has always relished a challenge as he hopes to lead the Letterkenny lads to their fourth county title on the trot.
“It has been an interesting year for our team as the Junior A competition took away a lot of our big names, but they went out and they are all available to us now,” he said. “So, we are now much stronger and that was all needed against Gaoth Dobhair.

So, we have the likes of Lee McMonagle back, who is a big player for us. David Boyle, James Kelly, Cormac Finn and Noel O'Donnelll are all quality players as well”.

Gaoth Dobhair gave St Eunan’s a good test before they edged matters by two points at the end, winning 1-12 to 1-10 last Saturday. St Eunan's are going for four-in-a-row and Blake, who lines out at corner-forward, has been an ever present in this remarkable run.

“This will be a huge challenge and it took a late goal for us to get over Naomh Conaill in last year's quarter-final so it will be very close. Their defence is very solid, but their main threats come up front with Leon Thompson, Seamus Corcoran and Kieran Gallagher and Darragh Gallagher. There are no weak links with Naomh Conaill.

“We played them in the League and won by a point, but they have got a lot stronger and so have we, so it is two different teams. So, I am expecting a real battle”.

For Blake, it is a great honour to captain this team on county final day and with the chance to add to their fine level of success in the competition in recent times.

“There is a great buzz in the squad,” he said. “The seniors are going so well and that has a great knock- on effect. And we are hoping to keep that great run going ourselves”.
