Ciara McGarvey held her nerve to fire over the winning point to seal the HEC LGFA League Division 3 title for ATU Donegal against St Mary's Belfast.
ATU Donegal 0-9
St Mary's Belfast 0-8
In a tense final at the Tyrone GAA centre in Garvahey, the margins were alway thin but it was Barney Curra, Nadine Friel and Sylvester Maguire’s side who came out on top by the minimum. Termon forward McGarvey top-scored with four points for the Letterkenny-based team, with Aimee McIntyre hitting two and Danielle McGinley and Karen McLoughlin posted a point apiece on a wintry night for football.
It was a fine victory for ATU who played with the elements in the first half, following which they trailed by 0-7 to 0-3 before putting in a powerful showing after the break.
Last year, ATU Donegal lost out in the Moynihan Cup final to Munster Technological University Cork, but both sides were promoted to the Lynch Cup. The draw for that competition takes place early next month with the action set to start in January.
