Alan Boyd, Donegal Co Treasurer

Donegal GAA Co treasurer, Alan Boyd, reported a loss of €133,063 in the workings of the Association in his report to Co. Convention, held in the Mount Errigal Hotel, Letterkenny this Wednesday evening.

The loss, the first in a number of years, is the significant figure from the report, after the returns for the previous year showed a profit of €633,016.

The total income for the year showed a massive increase from €1,080,987 in 2021 to €1,593,080 this year.  However, the expenditure in 2022 is almost double that of 2021, jumping from €761,262 last year to €1,726,143 this year.

On the commercial income side the big figures include €316,630 in sponsorship (€248,419 in 2021); Central Council Grants €201,600 (€60,000 in 2021) and Royalties €174,917 (€112,032 in 2021).

The other significant item of income comes from Club Levies which remained the same as last year, 231,400. There is also a significant income from Central Council and Provincial Council regarding team expenses and administration, which comes to €216,537 (down from €406,402 in 2021).

On the expense side of the treasurer's report, Team Expenses are up in 2022 from €571,290 in 2021 to €911,251 this year.

Apart from the money needed to run county teams, the other big item of expenditure comes under the heading of Coaching and Games Development, which includes the recently formed GAA Academy. The total figure for expenditure in this section comes to €411,887.

This is broken down as follows: Coaching Scheme Payments, a profit of €18,744 and Summer Camps, a profit of €32,886, with expenditure on Games Development €239,126 and Employment of Personnel €224,391.

When viewed against last year's figures (which showed a profit of €36,900), the turnaround is hugely influential in the overall loss made for the financial year.
