Gardaí warn Donegal residents of hit-and-run phone call scam

An Garda Síochána advises the public not to engage with the caller
An Garda Síochána are warning residents of Donegal to be wary of fraudulent phone calls.
The fraudulent phone calls are from a UK phone number beginning with 0044 and feature an automated message claiming that the recipient’s vehicle has been involved in a hit-and-run collision.
The caller then asks the recipient to press one to be connected with a member of An Garda Síochána regarding the alleged incident.
A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána advises the public not to engage with the caller, sharing via social media, “the call is a scam and members of the public should be advised not to engage, or provide any personal or financial information during the call.”
The Gardaí ask that if you believe you’ve engaged with such a scam, contact your local Garda station.
