The Dungloe Wind Turbine Action Group meeting had a "great turnout", according to organisers
Organisers of the Dungloe Wind Turbine Action Group are happy with what they call a “great turnout” at their meeting.
The meeting, held in the Ionad on Friday night, October 10, was unanimous in its opposition to siting a wind plant and substation towering over Dungloe and so many scenic views around the Rosses. The meeting heard from members of the Gweebarra and Graffy Conservation Groups who outlined the many negatives of planning a wind plant on a peat bog near a large rural population and the implications for human health, land and property devaluation, wildlife, particularly birds of prey and the potential to pollute aquifers, wells, lakes and coastal waters if a wind plant were built in Cronashallog.
In relation to tourism the meeting was shocked to learn that the developers describe Dungloe as having no tourist attractions whatsoever and that the nearest tourist attraction to Dungloe is the Bridle Path Trail, 20km away in Glenveagh National Park!
The meeting was also addressed by county councillors Michael Cholm Macgiollaeasbuig and Seamus Ó Fearraigh who both vowed to continue to support the local people in their opposition to ill-sited wind turbines. Pat the Cope Gallagher TD said that he does not comment on wind plant planning applications but acknowledged the ludicrous fact that local people cannot get planning permission to build a house on their own land along the N56 yet industrialists can apply to build wind plants.
