Fionn Woods from Gort a Choirce rescued a wallaby from drowning in a trench in Brisbane, Australia.

The trench had partially filled with water due to heavy rainfall. Fionn was with a group and as soon as they made the discovery, Fionn jumped into action.

“I was used to working with sheep and all sorts of animals at home and thought nothing of jumping in and grabbing it,” said Fionn. “Unfortunately after having saved the mammy 'roo, the lads discovered while emptying the water from the trench, they found its baby which must have fallen from the pouch and drowned when the mother first fell in.

“The rescued wallaby was named ‘Donegal Roo' by the lads as it hopped off into the surrounding bushland.”
