A new walking trail has been officially opened in Fintown.

The Millside Walk is a 2km looped path which is located in the Coillte Forests near Lough Finn.

“I had the pleasure of walking this lovely new trail over Christmas with some of the members of the hard-working committee, Gwendoline Furey, Carol Gibbons, and Nuala Ui Chumhaill,” Sinn Féin Councillor Brian Carr said. “Ann Marie Gibbons and Martina Quinn couldn’t be there, but all the committee's hard work is clearly seen in this lovely asset to the area.

“The walk offers stunning views along Lough Finn and down the valley. Huge well done to the committee for their perseverance and commitment. After securing funding in 2021 and facing setbacks when costs came in over budget, they didn’t let that stop them. They kept going, got the funding and made the walk a reality.

“The walk is located halfway between Fintown and Letterkenny junction on the right-hand side, with parking available. If you get the chance, it’s well worth the visit.”

The total budget for the project amounted to €222,000 and the project has now reached completion.

“This trail offers a fantastic opportunity for locals and visitors alike to enjoy the rugged beauty and tranquillity of the area,” Slí Taobh a Mhuilinn said. “A huge thank you to McFadden Civils for their work in delivering the project. Thanks also to Councillor Brian Carr and to the Community Development team in Donegal County Council for their support in getting funding, which was provided through the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS).“Everyone is very welcome to come along, explore the trail, and make the most of this wonderful new amenity.”
