Tributes were paid to the late Stephen McCahill at the January plenary meeting of Donegal County Council.

During votes of sympathy for those who have died recently, Fine Gael Cllr Martin Harley proposed that the council also remember the late businessman and community activist.

Cllr Harley said: “We lost a good person in Ardara tragically over the New Year as well, Stephen McCahill. Stephen was a great community person in Ardara and he did a lot of work for the community.”

Also paying tribute to Mr McCahill, Fianna Fáil Cllr Ciaran Brogan said: “He was a very close and personal friend to our colleague here Anthony Molloy as well. Our thoughts and prayers are with all the family and we acknowledge Stephen’s vast contribution.

“Stephen had a lot of dealings with Donegal County Council and was always driving things forward in a very positive way for Ardara in so many ways and we served with him in the ETB as well. His contribution was huge and many of his projects and legacies will live on.”
