Work on the Lettermacaward Green Area is starting to take shape.

The Lettermacaward Development Group was awarded €50,000 under the CLÁR (Ceantair Laga Árd-Riachtanais) scheme, which provides funding for small-scale projects in rural areas. These funds typically focus on developing community facilities and amenities such as playgrounds, sensory gardens, and walking tracks.

“It’s great to see that work is in progress, developing the Green Area into an exciting and useful space for the community in Leitir – it feels like a long time since we secured the CLAR funding of €50,000 that triggered this development,” Lettermacaward Development posted.

“Many months of working with the Council and their architects to not only design the area, but also encouraging them to seek additional funding, through further grants, council funding sources, and other agencies, such as the Donegal Sports Partnership.

“We are proud to say that we didn’t have to come back to the people of Leitir with any additional fundraising for this major project, and we hope that the Green Area will become a new focus for the village, one that locals and visitors will enjoy.

“Thanks are due to the council officers we’ve worked with, the architects, and of course, Councillor Brian Carr, whose support and encouragement have been much appreciated.

“A special mention for former councillor Marie Terese Gallagher, who was instrumental in the formation of the Development Group, and helped us focus on plans for the Green Area.”

Sinn Féin’s Cllr Carr added: “I was delighted to see this project get underway. This space will become a wonderful public amenity for the village and a focal point for the community. A massive well done to the Lettermacaward Development for all their hard work to bring their original idea to life. Every community needs a dedicated group like this to help progress important local projects.

“Their idea began a while back and was helped start with DFI funding from Máire Thérèse Gallagher and the late Noreen McGarvey. I was delighted to be able to add further funding last year through DFI and Minor Tourism. Additional support came from CLÁR funding secured by the group, Donegal Sports Partnership, and Donegal County Council.

“Thanks also to the Donegal County Council architects and design team, and to the Community Development section for their work on the funding side. I look forward to seeing the works completed and to seeing people enjoying this new community space. Again, well done, Lettermacaward Development Group.”
