Dungloe’s Darcy Walsh describes Glór Tíre experience as a ‘win-win’

Country singer Darcy Walsh is determined to build on her Glór Tíre momentum.

Darcy Walsh may not have reached the Glor Tíre Grand Final, but she continued her county’s proud tradition of continually reaching the knock-out stages of Irish Country Music’s premiere TV show.

The Dungloe-native appeared on the long-running, hit TG4 music programme on Tuesday, delivering an impressive tribute to her idol Dolly Parton by performing two of the singer-songwriter’s best-loved numbers.

“I thought it would be nice to do ‘Coat Of Many Colours’ and ‘Why'd You Come In Here Looking Like That?’ as Dolly turned 80 this year and she's still flying,” said Darcy.

Darcy’s appearance on the Semi-Final marks a ‘three-in-a-row’ of Donegal Country singers reaching the ‘business end’ of Glór Tíre, with Inishowen’s Jack Larry also making the Semi-Final last year and north

Ramelton native Jason McCahill and Dunfanaghy’s Chelsea Evans competed in the 2024 Final, and McCahill was crowned the winner.

“I was proud to represent Donegal,” said Darcy. “The reaction from people has just been phenomenal. Donegal is such a close-knit community and anytime that somebody's going for something for Donegal, you really see the whole community rally behind them. And I have seen that since I announced I was going on Glór Tíre. The support has been absolutely incredible.”

“All I ever wanted was to be able to stand on the Glór Tíre stage, so to have gotten that opportunity is a tick off the bucket list for me. The plan now is to continue to gig, and I'm already getting phone calls from people about doing extra shows. So, yeah, the exposure it's given me has been amazing. It’s been a win-win for me.”
