For the third successive year, Donegal Golf Club will welcome the top professionals on the PGA in Ireland Elavon circuit to compete in the Total Splicing Solutions Donegal Pro-Am.

The Donegal Pro-Am will be held from June 27-28. Set on the picturesque Murvagh peninsula, south of Donegal Town, the course at Donegal G.C. has - under the guidance of Paul McGinley and McGinley Design - undergone considerable renovation in the last three years, as it continues its quest for improvement and to remain at the forefront of golf in Donegal and the Northwest.

A prize fund of €30,000 will be on offer for the professionals, making it one of the most lucrative events to date on the PGA in Ireland calendar. Top prizes will also be on offer for the leading teams of amateurs and professionals over the two days of competition.

Donegal G.C. General Manager, Lynn McCool says that excitement is building at Donegal Golf Club ahead of the event and that it will be all hands on deck to ensure that all visitors will have a memorable experience.

“We are looking forward to welcoming 46 of the leading PGA professionals and teams from all over Ireland to Donegal Golf Club, which will result in a very busy time for the golf club and local community during this period,” she said.

Total Splicing Solutions (TSS) will once again be the main tournament sponsors. CEO Ian Coughlan and family will be prominent throughout. The family have a long-standing history in Donegal - the Donegal Town region in particular - and at Donegal Golf Club. Ian’s sister Mary served as Tánaiste from 2008 to 2011 and serves as current Chairperson of Donegal GAA. The family have been instrumental in not just the sponsoring of the event, but the behind-the-scenes organisation as well and several members of the family will be participating in the Pro-Am.

The inaugural staging of the event in 2023 saw Lough Erne’s Damian Mooney and Steven Quinlan of SQ Golf share the spoils, while the K Club’s Liam Grehan was in a class of his own in blustery conditions in 2024.

PGA in Ireland Manager, Conor Dillon, thanked everybody involved in making the event become one of the most eagerly anticipated on the PGA in Ireland schedule.

“The Total Splicing Solutions PGA Pro- Am at Donegal Murvagh is growing in stature every year, thanks to the support of Ian Coughlan, Lynn McCool, Leslie Robinson and the members who are very committed to the success of this wonderful two-day event,” he said. “I would also like to recognise Michael McGeady whose concept was used in bringing this spectacular event to life.”

Club Captain, Mr Darren McDaid, also paid tribute to the Coughlan family’s support.

“This strong family involvement, combined with the generous sponsorship from TSS, continues to be a winning formula for the success of the Donegal Pro-Am, and one we are proud to celebrate,” he said.

Donegal Golf Club Lady Captain, Mrs Geraldine Giblin, said she feels that the event is a perfect way for the club to display the stunning scenery that surrounds the golf course.

“This is a wonderful event (now in its third year) which is putting Donegal, Murvagh and the Northwest on the map for visitors to enjoy the sheer beauty the region has to offer,” she said.
