Pair to stand trial over threats to kill with hammer

The two appeared at court in Letterkenny this week over an incident last June

Bid to address Donegal's 'unmanageable' court list

A man and a woman will go on trial after being charged with a raft of offences in relation to an incident in Letterkenny last June.

Matthew Lafferty and Amanda Coleman appeared before Letterkenny District Court this week.

Garda Lynda Halligan gave evidence of serving a book of evidence on each of the accused at Letterkenny courthouse.

They are charged with offences on June 1, 2022 at Robinson Hall, Port Road, Letterkenny.

Lafferty, a 30-year-old of 2 Robinson Hall, Port Road, Letterkenny and Coleman, a 37-year-old of 2a Robinson Hall, Port Road, Leterkenny appeared on similar charges.

Each faces 13 separate and similar charges.

Among the charges are aggravated burglary and producing an article, namely a hammer, in the course of a dispute.

They are charged with making threats to kill or cause serious harm, burglary, assault and with using or engaging in threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour.

Sergeant Jim Collins told the court that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has consented to the pair being sent forward to Letterkenny Circuit Court.

Judge Éiteáin Cunningham administered the alibi warning and made a section 56 order in relation to tapes of interviews.

In both cases, legal aid was granted to solicitor Mr Patsy Gallagher and one legal counsel was assigned.

Both defendants were granted bail.
