427 bags of litter were collected from a Donegal beach last year.
This statistic emerged from yesterday's meeting of the Donegal Municipal District as councillors heard of plans for this year's Big Donegal Clean-up event.
This sees groups all over the county taking part with the council supporting organisations of any size intending to carry out a clean-up by providing bags, gloves, litter pickers etc.
At Tuesday's municipal district meeting Waste Awareness Officer, Suzanne Bogan called for location suggestions for the launch of this year's event.
"We want somewhere that will showcase Donegal and make a connection with a local community group or school," she said.
Cllr Micheal Naughton suggested the Diamond in Donegal Town while Cllr Niamh Kennedy put Fintra beach forward as a potential location too.
"The group in Killybegs has been very proactive working on the beach. They picked up 427 bags of litter in 2022 and work is continuing on an ongoing basis there," she said.
It is expected a decision will be announced shortly.
Cllr Barry Sweeny said it was almost that time of the year when litter began appearing along the sides of the roads.
"It's a shame to see the state some of the roads are in and frustrating for those who do an awful lot of work to try and combat it. I would encourage as many people as possible to get involved in community clean-ups. Get out and do your bit for your area wherever that may be but to remember to do it in a safe manner too," he said.
