Traffic congestion in Ballyshannon was increasing due to problems with no loading bay on Market Street and inadequate line markings invalid car parking areas, says local councillor Barry Sweeny.

He was addressing the issue during the recent Donegal Municipal District meeting.

"There is congestion on both sides of the road due to the lack of a loading bay on Market Street. If there was one there for certain hours it would help solve the problem of dangerous parking there."

He added that wheelchair-accessible parking spaces needed to be repainted.

"I know we are waiting for some resurfacing work to be done up around the area where the Spar shop is but the paint has worn off the two spaces and people are just using them as normal parking spaces because it's not that evident that they are reserved," he said.

He called for these matters to be addressed as soon as possible.

The meeting was told by the area manager for roads and transportation, Mark Sweeney that the council would look into these matters as soon as they could.

This was agreed upon.
