Councillor Patrick McGowan wants clarification on airport issue

The City of Derry Airport

Clarification has been sought on Donegal County Council's future input into the City of Derry Airport.

The issue was raised at the recent Lifford-Stranorlar Municipal District meeting when cathaoirleach Cllr Patrick McGowan said there were a lot of discussions going on at the moment about Derry City Airport looking for the Government to fund it.

"I sat on the airport committee many years ago along with the late Cllr Bernard McGuinness and the reason the council withdrew its members from it was that we were told we didn't count.

"Those were the exact words used. If there are plans for the council and the government to fund the airport how will we have input? At that time it wouldn't accept euros and various things like that. If we are to be involved we have to find more out."

Mary McBride from the council's economic development, information systems and emergency services section said she would seek clarification on the issue and come back to him with it.
