Pipers in action at the recent Ulster-Scots Heritage Day event in Raphoe
Donegal's Ulster-Scots marching bands are in line for a timely financial boost with the news that the Ulster-Scots Agency has secured additional funding to open a pilot funding programme.
It will fund Ulster-Scots marching bands in the county to purchase instruments or uniforms to make their band more sustainable.
This pilot scheme is intended to increase the confidence and capacity of the Ulster-Scots community in the border counties of Donegal, Cavan, and Monaghan by improving the appearance and musicality of Ulster-Scots marching bands in the area. This will be done through the award of grant funding to support the purchase of musical instruments, accessories, consumables, or items of uniform.
The fund will provide support of up to 90% of eligible costs up to a maximum grant of €10,000. The Agency is able under this scheme to support bands to purchase musical instruments, uniforms, and consumable items such as pipe bags, chanters, reeds, drumsticks, and pads.
A full list of all eligible costs is listed in the programme guidelines which will be e-mailed to bands along with the application form once they complete the registration process.
Groups interested in applying should visit Ulster-Scots Agency website www.ulsterscotsagency.com, follow the link for ROI Instruments and Uniform Grants and complete the registration process and an application form, and guidelines will be emailed to the Band.
Bands interested in applying are encouraged to carefully read the guidelines and contact the Agency to clarify any issues before submitting their application form. Applications will close at 12 noon on Monday, July 31, Bands must ensure that they have submitted all the supporting documentation as listed in the guidelines.
The Ulster-Scots Community Network can offer support to those bands interested in applying and can be contacted at 0044 89043 6710 for assistance.
