Groups in Castlefin have expressed concern about the lack of footpaths serving the village
Castlefin Tidy Towns alongside several other groups are keen to highlight an area of real concern within their community. A petition sheet has been drafted in order to point out the need to develop a footpath on the outskirts of the village.
A Tidy Towns spokesperson takes up the story.
"The road between Castlefin and Ringsend is in urgent need of a footpath. Pedestrians walking outbound from the village, which includes children attending Castlefin Celtic’s soccer pitch in Ballybun, have no protection against oncoming traffic on part of this road.
"There is no hard shoulder, footpath, lighting, road markings of any type and no traffic calming measures in place to assist the safety of pedestrians using this stretch of road.
“We all feel strongly that action is needed immediately. We don’t want anyone from our community or any community to be another statistic on our roads. This is also a danger for drivers. There are petition sheets located in the businesses in the town and we would like as many as possible to sign this petition and work to get the footpath erected.”
