Donegal Camino begins in Malin this Sunday

The walks will include some of the most breathtaking and beautiful scenery the county has to offer

The Donegal Camino is back on track

The Donegal Camino is set to take place from Sunday, September 3, to in support of Cancer Care West.
Growing in popularity year on year, this unique walking festival is based on the ethos of the Camino and is a pilgrimage across the stunning hills, mountains and coastal loop walks with the aim of showcasing Donegal as a world class walking and hiking destination while also raising funds for vital cancer services.
The walk is heavily subscribed with walkers from across the island of Ireland, Scotland, the US and Europe.
Founder Peggy Stringer said: “We’re once again so excited and humbled by the interest in the fourth Donegal Camino. The safety of our walkers is our utmost priority and thereafter showcasing the beauty of our beloved Donegal along with raising funds for Cancer Care West.”
The Donegal Camino which opens on Sunday, September 3 in Malin Head in Inishowen. The Donegal Camino itinerary will delight walkers and hikers with a stunning network of loop coastal walks, hill and mountain hikes over 7 days before reaching its finishing point at Europe’s highest sea cliffs, Sliabh Liag on Saturday, Saturday 9.
Led by the award winning Donegal-based walking guide John McGroary and his team of professional walking guides, they will safely guide and entertain walkers as the Donegal Camino weaves its way from Lagg Church in Malin Head in Inishowen over the hills and coastlines of beautiful Donegal while also taking in Knockalla Mount Ridge, HornHead a sunrise climb of Errigal, the Gaeltacht region and Toraigh, Maghera Ardara before the ultimate peak of Europe’s highest sea cliffs, Sliabh Liag.
Each walker has their own personal agenda for walking the Donegal Camino, all of which contributes to the true essence and atmosphere of a Camino and pilgrimage walk.
Noel Cunningham, Board Member of Cancer Care West, Donegal Camino Founding Member, TV Personality and Harvey’s Point Ambassador is on hand to support walkers in their fundraising initiatives. “Since its foundation the Donegal Camino has donated €75,600 to Cancer Care West which is invested in the wonderful support centre in Letterkenny and other services for cancer patients and their families in Donegal. A much-needed service, we’re very proud of the growing Donegal Camino, the generosity of walkers, our corporate sponsors and those who donate, collectively we’re developing a precious and memorable walking event which supports a much needed service here in Donegal”.
