Flooding at Drumfergus, Crossroads won't be solved without landowners cooperation, meeting told
Serious flooding at Drumfergus, Crossroads caused major problems for householders during recent freak weather conditions and it was vital Donegal County Council addressed the issue immediately.
That was the message from Cllr Patrick McGowan at Monday's meeting of the Lifford-Stranorlar Municipal District when he asked for an update on what plans the council had to address the ongoing problems there.
"Many houses suffered as a result of water rushing down the road both times the recent flooding happened.
"It can't allowed to go on. We need a special workshop to examine this issue. Can you imagine what might happen if that area floods between now and this time next year? It can't be allowed to continue, there have been too many floods in this place.”
Senior roads engineer Claire McGeever said the Druymfergus case was submitted as part of the application to the department to deal with the floods.
"A catchment analysis is being carried out there in relation to the road crossings at that point. It's a very complex situation, there are many, many landowner issues and they are being worked through. It will require cooperation from landowners to resolve all those flooding issues up there," she added.
