Deceased was a member of a very well-known GAA family and he was a lifelong member of Na Rossa GAA Club

The community in Leitirmacaward and surrounding areas were enveloped in a veil of sadness at the weekend with news of the death of one of its favourite sons, Trevor Melly.

Known over a wide area, Trevor’s passing at the young age 46, was the cause of much mourning. He was known especially for his involvement with the  local GAA club, Na Rossa, and the club posted a lovely tribute on their Facebook page this week.

"RIP- Trevor Melly," they said. "Very sad news over the weekend as we learned of the tragic passing of Trevor Big Ned Melly.

"A real Na Rossa stalwart Trev played from a very young age right through to seniors where he commanded his position on the half-back line for a number of years. He was also a championship winner with the seniors and also captained the side during his successful career with the team.

"A Na Rossa man through & through. We extend our deepest Sympathies to all his family Louise, Erin, Jamsie, Breege, Felix, Barry, Diane & Sinead and his extended family. RIP Trev. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a Anam

A tribute was also posted by Dungloe GAA.

"CLG An Clochán Liath is deeply saddened to hear of the death of Trevor Melly, Lettermacaward," they said. "Trevor was well known in the Rosses and a loyal Na Rossa Player.

"We send our deepest sympathy to his wife Louise, daughter Erin, his parents Jamsie and Breege, siblings Felix, Barry, Diane and Sinead and to all his extended family and friends.

"Rest in Peace Trevor. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a Anam"

Sadly missed by his wife Louise, daughter Erin, his parents Breege and Jamsie, his brothers Felix (Janet), Barry (Tanya), his sisters Diane (Michael) and Sinead, his nephews, Conor, Logan and Teighernan, his nieces, Ciara, Niamh and Cassie, his extended family, friends and neighbours.

Trevor's remains will repose at his parents' house in Glengesh, Ardara (F94 R94K) on Wednesday from 11am until 11pm, removal from there on Thursday morning at 11am travelling via Glenties going to his late residence in Lettermacaward (11 Ascall Bhríde F94 X5R5). Reposing there from 12 noon until 11pm. Funeral Mass at 12 noon on Friday in St Bridget's Church, Lettermacaward, with interment afterwards in Cill Bhríde Cemetery.
