Belleek and surrounding areas shocked at death of one of their best known residents

Donegal and Fermanagh shocked by sudden passing of Patsy McCauley

The late Patsy McCauley

The area of west Fermanagh and south Donegal were shocked on Tuesday when news filtered through of the sudden death of Patsy McCauley of Keenaghan, Belleek.

The Belleek native was known over a very wide area through his work as a Funeral Undertaker and also for many years a shop owner on Belleek’s Main Street. He was also a bar manager and a fireman and was at the heart of the Belleek community throughout his life. A former chairman of the Belleek Chamber of Commerce, Patsy’s great love was getting involved in community affairs, whether that be at a commercial level or in charity work.

His very personable demeanour was always to the fore and he had a welcoming word for everyone he met. It was for this reason that the news of his sudden passing evoked great sadness, especially in the communities around the Border town.

His personality shone through especially in his work as a Funeral Director, where his attention to detail was well known.

Patsy was also well-known through his leisure activity of golf. He was a member of the Bundoran Golf Club and only recently finished his term as President of the club. He was also a previous Club Captain and was a tireless worker in promoting the club. Again his outgoing personality always shone through.

Patsy’s funeral will take place on Friday after Requiem Mass in St Patrick’s Church at 11 am.

He is survived by is wife Dolores; son Matthew (Aideen); brothers Liam and Brendan; sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and a large circle of family and friends.
