Third anti-war protest outside Minister McConalogue’s office in Carndonagh

Anti-war activists lie on the ground outside the Minister's office, symbolising the innocent people who have been murdered in Palestine.

The Inishowen branch of the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign has held a third demonstration outside Minister Charlie McConalogue’s office, to further protest ongoing Israeli attacks against the population in Gaza.

Three women who had fasted for 72 hours – Christine McGillan, Michaela O'Hara and Nina Quigley – joined the Carndonagh action on Friday, June 6, on what was the final day of their hunger strike.

Protesters walked around the Diamond, carrying shrouds of murdered Palestinian civilians, from babies to adults, symbolising all those killed by Israeli airstrikes, sniper fire, forced starvation, and lack of medicines and medical facilities.

Those taking part in the anti-war rally, which saw activists coming from across Donegal and the North-West to Carn, also made loud noise to demonstrate their anger at the atrocities being perpetrated by Israel in response to the Hamas atrocities of October 7, 2023.

Group member Caroline Kuyper said it was about holding Minister McConalogue to account.

“We made noise to show our anger at the government's inaction, and worse, complicity. We are appalled at Charlie McConalogue and the Fianna Fail Party all voting to block the proposed Bill to stop the Central Bank from facilitating Israeli bonds, that are used to fund their military operations, many of which are war crimes.”

The protesters also staged a one-minute ‘die-in’ outside the Minister’s constituency office, leaving shrouds outside on the road for a brief time.

“We will never be silent when it comes to speaking up for Palestinians' right to peace, justice and freedom, and speaking out against the Irish and EU complicity in the genocide. Words are hollow; it's actions that are needed!” Caroline urged.

The Inishowen IPSC wants the government to stop the Central Bank facilitating the sale of Israeli war bonds; to pass the Occupied Territories Bill in full; and to stop giving permission to the US military to use Shannon Airport. Members are also calling for the implementation of sanctions and an end to Irish trade arrangements with Israel.
