A Ballyshannon woman had the experience of a lifetime after singing on stage with Alanis Morissette at Malahide.
Grainne Gillespie told the presenter of Newstalk’s Lunchtime Live, Andrea Gilligan, that the whole experience was “a bit of a blur” and praised Morissette for being “so cool” after she was invited on stage to sing the hit, Ironic, with the Canadian superstar.
Alanis Morissette performed at Malahide Castle as part of her current tour in front of thousands of fans.
Describing herself as a “massive fan,” Grainne stated: “She is just unbelievable and so cool. She is my idol. She made eye contact, and I felt way more comfortable. She was really sound and so cool. “

When discussing how she was invited on stage, Grainne said: “Someone from production just came down to the audience and was watching the crowd a bit, and came over to me and asked me if I would be interested in going up on stage with Alanis. I actually started laughing because I thought it was a joke.
“She had a mic on, and I thought it was real. I was brought aside and brought up.”
According to Grainne, Morissette had only performed “four of five songs” at the time she was spotted and invited to sing with Morissette.
“It was really early,” commented Morissette. “They called me up. I was so shaky. They brought me through. It was really good because I got to go to backstage and I had not seen anything like that before.
“I was met by one of the mic guys and the stage manager. They were so helpful. They talked me through it. I would be quite shy a lot of the time. I would not be able to sing in front of anyone, really.
“They were giving me advice to take the moment in as much as I could. They were amazing. They were so welcoming, and Alanis was so cool.
“I have not been able to watch the video. I feel like I would die if I saw it, but when I was up there, it was Alanis, and you dance like you lost yourself.
