John Curran encouraging a Tug-O'-War team in Killybegs in the competition now named after him
Killybegs is holding the John Curran Memorial Tug-O’-War on Saturday, August 9.
The event will be held as part of the Killybegs Summer 2025 Festival, which runs from August 8 to August 10.
Included in the festival is a performance from The Debonaires and the Duck Street Jam Band.
Shaun Curran, son of John Curran, of whom the Tug-O’-War event is named after, told Donegal Live: “There is always a big following for the Tug of War. It would not be for the professional lads, but in Killybegs, we would be big into that.

“Anyone who wants to enter the competition can enter the competition, 100%.”
When speaking about his father, Shaun said: “He used to pull Tug of War for Killybegs.
“Any sports that would be on, he would get involved. We thought the event would be good as a Memorial Cup for him, with the fact that he used to be involved back in the day and pulling Tug of War as well.”
