New drive-thru restaurant planned for Letterkenny

Conditional planning permission has been granted by Donegal County Council for the construction of a drive-thru restaurant in Letterkenny.

The proposed restaurant will be located in the Port Road area of Letterkenny, and would initially involve the demolition of a two-storey dwelling and a single-storey commercial unit. 

PJ McDermott was the listed applicant for the submitted application. Donegal County Council found the project was in “accordance with the proper planning and sustainable development of the area.”

A single-storey drive-thru restaurant has been given conditional planning to be constructed, which includes the ancillary sale of hot food for consumption off the premises, with an associated corral area, elevational signage, car/bicycle parking, and EV carparking spaces, grill bays, a height restrictor, customer order points, amongst other amenities. 

Landscaping, including a furniture/seating area with parasols, is included in the proposed development. 

Moreover, included in planning is the installation of a traffic barrier on the meridian of the R229 public road, adjacent to the proposed site entrance to and from the development. 

A total of 19 conditions have been set by Donegal County Council as part of the granted planning permission, including a paid contribution by the applicant to the Planning Authority of €3,921.75, in respect of public infrastructure and facilities benefitting development in the area of the Planning Authority that is already provided or is intended will be provided by the Authority.

A payment as adequate security of €100,000 is to be paid before the development starts, has also been made a condition, which is to be paid either by bond, cash deposit, or any other security that the council may approve.

The adequate security payment is to cover the provision and completion of all services required by the development.
