Successful Glenties coffee morning was held in memory of Breid McGill
Organisers of a fundraising coffee morning in memory of Breid McGill in Glenties said they were overwhelmed by “how generous people were.”
Deirbhle Ward spoke to Donegal Live about the coffee morning held in Market Hall, Glenties, on Sunday, August 10, which was held on the first anniversary of her aunt Bried’s passing.
Over €10,000 has been raised by a combined GoFundMe page and the coffee morning for three charities: Cancer Care West, The Donegal Hospice, and The Cancer Bus Services.
Deirbhle said: “It went really well. There was a massive turnout. We were really overwhelmed with the response. I would like to thank everyone with the baking, helping out, and who made donations.

“Coming from a small town like Glenties, everybody is really supportive. The three charities have probably helped out every household in Donegal, and it is time to give back, and I am sure that people in Glenties and the surrounding area thought so as well.
“As a family, we decided to do this as a family because these charities were important to us as a family.”
Deirbhle explained the link between the charities and their care for Breid, who passed away at the Donegal Hospice, where she had worked as a Palliative Nurse.
Cancer Care West was able to help provide accommodation in Galway whilst Breid was receiving treatment, and The Cancer Bus Services assisted with transportation.
When asked about the charitable donations from the coffee morning, Deirbhle commented: “The figures between the Go Fund Me and the coffee morning, we are sitting at over €10,000 at the moment.
“We even thought, if we had raised €500 from the Go Fund Me alone would have been brilliant. We are completely overwhelmed by how much was raised and how generous people were. We are delighted that we can give back to the charities.”
