Donegal GAA granted permission for Centre of Excellence floodlighting

Donegal GAA has been granted planning permission for the erection of floodlights for two pitches at its GAA Centre of Excellence in Convoy by Donegal County Council.

The numbered pitches three and four of the GAA centre will see a total of six floodlight posts for each pitch as part of the granted permission.

Michael McMenamin, the Planning and Training Officer for the County Board of Donegal GAA was the listed applicant on the application.

Donegal County Council granted the planning permission with four conditions, for reasons to remove the potential for significant disturbance to local ecology, to reduce escape and spillage of light to sensitive areas, and in the interest of traffic safety.

Conditions were also placed to prevent flooding and ensure protection of waters, and to cater for orderly development.

The Donegal GAA Centre of Excellence was officially opened in October 2022, and was the culmination of 16 years of work from the project initiation to the official opening.

Built at a cost of €7.8 million, the centre already boasts five pitches, three of which are already floodlit, an auditorium, a 200-seat stand, a canteen and dining hall, a boardroom and breakout area, and six dressing rooms.
