Mark Ramsey and Santiago Selero at the Brother Walfrid Statue, at the finish point of their 100-mile walk
A duo of Celtic FC supporters thanked local residents for their “Irish hospitality” after completing a 100-mile walk from Letterkenny to Ballymote in Co Sligo in aid of Celtic FC Foundation.
Glaswegian Mark Ramsey and Santiago Selaro from Buenos Aires, Argentina, but living in Barcelona, completed their five-day journey to Ballymote after strolling through Letterkenny, Ballybofey, Donegal Town, Bundoran, and Sligo, and have so far raised €4,100.
The pair made sure to visit Finn Harps’ Finn Park in Ballybofey and Sligo Rovers’ Showgrounds along the way.
Ramsey told Donegal Live: “Overall, the walk was tough, especially from Bundoran to Sligo, with it being the longest stretch. The day before was challenging too. We had to brave the best of the Irish weather. The rain was biblical.
“The people we met along the way were extremely friendly. I’d like to thank them for their kindness and hospitality, especially the Association of Donegal Celtic Supporters Club.

“I now have memories that will last forever. I’d do it again in a heartbeat.”
Selero said: “Having finished our walk to the Walfrid Statue, I could say that what I enjoyed the most was experiencing Irish hospitality in person.
“Every day over our five-day walk, we were honoured to meet amazing people, not only at each destination but also on the road, as some people even had the nice gesture to stop by and wish us luck and give us support.
“Also, I consider we were lucky enough not to suffer from heavy rain over the entire week, other than some storms near Bundoran. For someone coming from Argentina, and not being used to a lot of rain, I am glad we were able to get to the finish as dry as we did.
“Overall, I want to thank everyone who helped and provided their support to complete this challenge, as well as Mark, for making me part of this amazing journey.
“I am absolutely delighted to have contributed to the Celtic Foundation fundraising and truly enjoyed the challenge.”
