Planning application submitted for new Dungloe windfarm to power 3,300 homes

Planned windfarm would be located near to Dungloe

A planning application has been submitted to Donegal County Council for the construction of a new wind farm at Dungloe, containing five windmills.

Irish Premium Renewable Energy Ltd is the listed applicant for the application, which describes itself as “a family-owned and managed company, local to Dungloe” and that if their “project is successful, we want our local community to benefit.”

The company believes the planned windfarm “could generate enough low-carbon renewable energy to power 3,300 Irish homes annually in the Rosses and offset 5,200 tonnes of carbon per annum, contributing significantly to Ireland’s 2030 renewable energy targets.”

Plans that were submitted were for the development of a wind farm consisting of five wind turbines of a total capacity of 4.99MW, and of a total overall tip height of 86 metres.

A new onsite Medium Voltage substation, a Construction and Electrical Compound, provision of a site entrance, installation of underground cabling connecting the turbines, the erection of site signage, associated site access tracks, the construction of a temporary compound, and all ancillary site development.

The application site is situated in the townland of Croaghnashallog, located in a rural setting approximately 2km south of Dungloe, and spans a total area of over 90 hectares.

Along with the 86-metre tip heights, which are approximately the height of a seven-storey building, the planned hub heights of the windmills are 56 metres, and a rotor diameter of 60 metres.

In 2022, an application to build a 100-metre meteorological mast in nearby Meenlecknalore was refused by Donegal County Council.

Donegal County Council have yet to announce a decision due date for the planned wind farm at Croaghnashallog.
