Plans for new apartment blocks in Manorcunningham

Planning has been sought from Donegal County Council for the construction of four apartment blocks, totalling 12 apartments, in Manorcunningham.

The listed applicant is the Ballybofey-based business, John O’Donnell Construction Ltd.

A site in Abbey Villas, Manorcunningham, has been proposed for the planned apartments, on a brownfield site that had been previously approved in two separate applications for eight and seven dwellings respectively, in 2017 and 2008.

Proposals include the demolition of an existing partially constructed dwelling to build 12 apartments over four apartment blocks. Two of the blocks will contain four apartments, and the remaining two blocks will contain

All siteworks, including bin storage, fencing and railings, public lighting, parking, bike stand and landscaping, connection into existing public storm and foul drainage are included in the planning application.

AL Architects said the current site was “overgrown with a partially built dwelling which appears to have remained unfinished for a number of years.”

They commented that the “brief for the project is to provide a mixture of quality residential units, providing quality rather than quantity.

“The scheme has to be able to provide ample living space, adequate private amenity space and public open space. The development has to maximise the natural light within the dwellings and allow for community interaction with the scheme and beyond.

“Each of the units has small front gardens with gated railing defining each space. The apartments have both small front and larger rear gardens, allowing for both levels to enjoy ground floor external private and semi-private amenity space.”

A decision due date for the planning application has been set by Donegal County Council for December 16.
