Donegal-based  Cricket Club seeks planning to improve ‘badly needed’ facilities

St Johnston Cricket Club has applied for planning permission from Donegal County Council for the construction of a two-lane bowling and batting practice area at their club grounds.

Club Chairperson, James Fleming, has been named as the applicant on behalf of the club, which plays in the North West Senior League, in the Premier Section One after winning promotion last season, and the women's team also secured promotion into their top division. They are members of the North West Cricket Union.

Canning & Associates Architectural Services, writing on behalf of the club, stated: “This proposed area will have a side facing the cricket club that can be easily adapted to create a shelter for spectators.

“This practice area is badly needed given their recent form.”

St Johnston Cricket Club were established in 1898, with their greatest accomplishment being winning the Irish Senior Cup in 1987, and they have also won the North West Senior League and North West Senior Cup.

Donegal County Council has set a decision due date for the submitted application for February 21, 2026.
