Donegal County Council grants planning permission for Kilcar apartments

Planning permission has been granted for apartments in Kilcar

Planning has been granted by Donegal County Council for two new apartments in the centre of Kilcar.

Submitted by Paul and Aisling Boyle, the permitted application is for the change of use of existing premises into two self-contained apartments with connection to the public sewerage system, and all associated site development works at Keenaghan, Kilcar.

The apartments will have a different number of bedrooms, with one apartment being a three-bedroom apartment, and the other being a two-bedroom apartment with capacity for four people.

It was written within the first planner’s report that the existing dwelling was “vacant and in

a state of disrepair, and therefore the principle of the development that will contribute to the regeneration of the village centre is acceptable.”

O’Gara’s Public Bar would be situated opposite the planned apartments in Kilcar, near a crossroads on Main Street, Carrick Road, and Towney Road, and The Áislann Centre is located within 100 metres of the subject site.

Following a request for further information, the applicants confirmed that the proposed use of both properties was for long-term rental purposes, and that there was a current shortage of available accommodation in the area, with a high demand.

Donegal County Council granted the application permission with six conditions, including a condition that the apartments be used as permanent houses or for long-term letting only, and not for holiday homes or short-term rental accommodation.

A further condition was that the applicant contribute a payment of €889.38 in respect of public infrastructure and facilities benefitting development in the area of the Planning Authority that is already provided or is intended to be provided by the Authority.
