The Letterkenny Campus of the Atlantic Technological University has applied to Donegal County Council for a gym extension in its sports complex.

Donegal County Council received an application for the construction of an extension to the current gym located in the existing ATU Sports Centre (An Dánlann) at the Letterkenny campus. The extension would be built on the external terrace outside the existing gym at first floor level.

An Dánlann is a standalone building in the Letterkenny campus off Port Road.

A report written by Mullarkey Pederson Architects stated: “ATU Donegal have requested that the terrace be turned into additional gym accommodation, with an office space that is slightly larger than the existing office, and a flexible space.

“The flexible space should accommodate 31 people, and the gym space 38 people. The space should utilise curtain walling for light and views out, while tempering solar gains. The heating and ventilation systems should be upgraded and designed to be more suitable for the gym environment.”

Donegal County Council has set a decision due date for the application for Wednesday, March 18.
