Coillte apply for site access permission for forest tree felling in West Donegal

Coillte has submitted a planning permission application to Donegal County Council for the construction of a permanent site access entrance in West Donegal for the purpose of tree felling of a mature forest.

The existing site is located parallel to the N56 from Dungloe to Glenties, in the townland of Meenlecknalore.

Coillte are Ireland’s semi-state forestry company, and is responsible for managing 440,000 hectares of primarily forested lands. It is the nation’s largest forester and producer of certified wood.

Within the planning application, Thomas Campbell Consulting Engineers commented that there would be five planned truck movements per day, with timber clear fell of approximately 2,134 cubic metres of timber, and the haulage route for the timber would be in the direction of Glenties. 

The application stated: “During the tree felling works, with timber removal from the site, advance warnings signs will remain in place to act as advance notice to passing motorists.”
