A planning application has been resubmitted for the installation and operation of five wind turbines near Dungloe.

Irish Premium Renewable Energy had withdrawn an application for a 10-year planning permission in December 2025, which had applied for the turbines to have an operational life of 30 years; however, the latest planning application is for the wind turbines to have an operational life of 35 years.

The application site is situated in the townland of Croaghnashallog, located in a rural setting approximately 2km south of Dungloe, spanning a total area of 25 hectares.

Plans that were submitted were for the development of a project that consisted of five wind turbines, each with a maximum tip height of 86 metres, and a total capacity of 4.9MW.

A new onsite Medium Voltage substation, provision of a site entrance, installation of underground cabling connecting the turbines, the erection of site signage, associated site access tracks, the construction of a temporary compound, and all ancillary site development are further included.

Provision of temporary delivery access is planned to be via the existing N56, and provision of service access for light vehicles is planned to be via the existing Diamond Road.

Within a Planning and Environmental Considerations Report, provided as part of the planning application, it was said: “The proposed Dungloe Wind Farm will be instrumental in supporting national objectives to reach 80% renewable electricity by 2030.

“In addition to contributing to climate targets, the development is expected to deliver both direct and indirect socio-economic benefits, including job creation and enhanced economic activity in the local area.”

Donegal County Council have yet to issue a decision due date for the submitted planning application.
