Donegal Rose Zoe McGettigan from Letterkenny
Tonight sees the start of the invasion of Kerry, with not one but two Donegal ladies - Denise Quigley and Zoe McGettigan - taking part in the qualifier rounds of the 57th Rose of Tralee competition.
Denise is a 27-year-old hairdresser from Frosses just outside Donegal Town is the Perth Rose, having settled there a number of years ago,
She decided to enter the International Ambassadorial Competition when she heard that they were looking for applicants in Perth.
Denise is the daughter of the popular Ethel Quigley, a great country and music fan and fundraiser for various charities.
Zoe will represent Donegal at this year’s festival after being crowned the Donegal Rose at a lavish ceremony in the Solis Lough Eske Castle Hotel.
A daughter of Cathal and Julie McGettigan, the 24-year-old from Letterkenny teaches preschool and afterschool children in a local crèche and Montessori school.
Some of her favourite experiences so far as the Donegal Rose have been the Mount Errigal climb for autism and participating in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Letterkenny.
Donegal’s two Roses will be joined in Tralee by three accordion bands - Letterkenny Senior Accordion Band,St. Peter’s Band from Mountcharles, and the Killaghtee Accordion Band from Dunkineely and Bruckless.
